Teaming with JWT/Team Retail First, the shoot took place at various locations around Atlanta.

Partnering with agency Maris, West & Baker, Colby uses iconic establishments such as Memphis’s Rum Boogie Café and Mississippi State’s Davis Wade stadium to establish a connection with viewers in each community.

Ryan Smith Shoots SCANA Energy

Director Ryan Smith delivered another spot for SCANA Energy entitled “The Easy Switch.” Teaming with JWT Atlanta, the spot shows viewers how easy it is to switch to SCANA. The two-day shoot took place at Atlanta’s PC&E sound stages. Pogo partnered with New York’s Mass Market to develop the VFX.

Colby Shoots UNC Health Care

Ben Callner Wins ‘Young Director Award’ at Cannes!

CANNES, FRANCE — June 22, 2011 — Pogo Pictures today announced that up-and-coming comedy director Ben Callner has been honored with a “Young Director Award” at the 2011 Cannes Advertising Festival. The Cannes Lions ‘Young Director Award’ is one of the most anticipated and prestigious at the annual advertising conference.

Callner is being recognized for his work directing a spec spot called “First Date” for Verizon. The well-received commercial already received accolades at the 2011 AICP Show, winning in the ‘best spec ad’ category. As a result it is being added to the permanent archives of The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. See the spot here:

Ben possesses a knack for finding inherent truths in the most unlikely scenarios, while capturing candid and natural comedic performances. Creating humor that is absurd yet believable, Ben effortlessly balances entertainment with advertising. Ben’s recent animated PSA for the National Children’s Study has garnered three ADDY awards and a Telly. In 2010 Ben won top prize in the Georgia Lottery’s Super Bowl competition with his afro-wearing talking hamsters spot, in addition to another Telly.

ABOUT THE YOUNG DIRECTOR AWARD

The Young Director Award is recognized as the most important event off the Cannes ‘Lions’, attracting over 300 participants and over 900 spectators every year. This gives considerable exposure to the winning directors and our sponsors.

The Award is divided into two sections: European and Non-European directors. The five award categories are broadcast commercials, test commercials, film school submissions, branded short films and web-films.

The Award jury is presided by François Chilot, President of the Young Director Award as well as the Commercial Film Producers of Europe (CFP-E). The jury panel includes highly regarded industry professionals such as Lyndy Stout, editor at large of Shots magazine, as well as several members of the CFP-E.

The AICP Show, The Art & Technique of the American Commercial, is more than just an awards show judging the best work of the year. NEW YORK — Pogo Pictures director Ben Callner’s Verizon “First Date” spot won best spec ad last night at the 2011 AICP Show at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. As an honoree, his spot will be inducted into the permanent collection of the Film Department at MoMA.

After last night’s debut at MoMA in New York, the 2011 AICP show reel will tour the country with stops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Miami, and Richmond. You can view it online now at aicpshow.com.
